Window position changes how a door reads from the street. Top-row layouts let in the most light. Side layouts (Left, Right, Outer) work well on multi-car homes for symmetry.

Single window pane on the left side.
Right-Side Harmony

Strap hinges, handles, and door knockers in cast iron or matte black. Adds the carriage-house look without the maintenance of real wood. Available on most carriage and traditional designs.

Standard Strap
Classic horizontal strap with rivet detail.
Cottage
Diamond-pointed strap with centre rivet.
Lis (Fleur)
Decorative scrollwork tip — heritage look.
Door Knockers
Optional centre knocker — pairs with carriage doors.

For attached garages, insulation matters: it keeps the adjacent room warmer, reduces opener noise, and stiffens the door against wind and impact. Detached garages can use lighter constructions.

R-2 SINGLE

Single-Layer Steel

Detached garages, sheds, secondary structures. Lightest, most affordable. No insulation core.

R-12Standard

3-Layer Polyurethane (1 ⅜″)

Good thermal performance for most attached garages. Quieter operation than single-layer.

R-16Premium

3-Layer Polyurethane (1 ¾″)

Best for attached garages with bedrooms above, finished gym/workshop spaces, or coastal exposure. Quietest, stiffest, longest-lived.

R-values are calculated per door section. Full-view aluminum doors are non-insulated by design.

Not Sure What Door Fits Your Home?

Three of the most common situations we walk Vancouver homeowners through. Match yours below — or send us a photo and we'll narrow it down for you.

Older or Character Home

Heritage, craftsman, or mid-century houses tend to look out of place with flush modern doors. Carriage house or traditional raised panel keeps the proportions correct without competing with the house's existing detail.

Recommended Carriage House · Raised Panel

Modern Home

New builds, contemporary renovations, and homes with dark trim or black windows look strongest with flush or plank doors. Black, charcoal, or iron ore. Slim window layouts add daylight without disrupting the clean lines.

Recommended Flush · Plank · Slim Lites

Busy Daily-Use Garage

Multi-car households opening the door 6+ times a day need an insulated steel door for strength, quieter operation, and durability. R-16 construction handles cycle counts and reduces noise transfer to bedrooms above.

Recommended 3-Layer Steel · R-16

We can help narrow down styles, colours, window layouts, and opener options before you commit to a door. No measurements needed — a phone snapshot is enough to start the conversation.

Most residential replacements — including removal of the old door and installation of the new one — take 3 to 4 hours. If a new opener is being installed at the same time, add about 1 to 1.5 hours. We don't leave until the system has been tested and verified.
Both are 3-layer polyurethane-insulated steel doors. R-12 is 1 ⅜″ thick; R-16 is 1 ¾″ thick. R-16 is quieter, stiffer, and provides better thermal performance — recommended for attached garages with finished space above or beside them.
Steel doors are baked-on enamel — repainting is possible but not recommended, as it voids the manufacturer finish warranty. We strongly recommend selecting from physical colour chips before installation. We'll bring chips to your home with the quote.
A standard window section reduces total door R-value slightly. For attached garages, a top-row window layout typically has minimal impact. If thermal performance is the priority, choose insulated glass options or skip the windows entirely.
Yes — and this is often the most efficient approach. New doors may have different weight profiles that affect opener compatibility, and combining both services reduces overall labour cost compared to two separate visits. View our LiftMaster opener lineup →
Manufacturer warranties typically cover the door panel, hardware, and finish for 5–15 years depending on the collection. We provide a separate workmanship warranty on installation. Specifics are listed on the written quote before any work starts.
