We Assess the Full Opening Before Recommending a Door

A garage door is a large mechanical system — its weight, balance, and hardware specification directly affect how long it performs and how safe it operates. We evaluate your opening, your framing, and your existing hardware before recommending any product.

Every installation includes haul-away of your old door, a full hardware check, spring balancing, and a multi-cycle test before we leave. We don't hand you a quote based on a photo and a model number.

Supply & Install

Door, hardware, and installation in a single appointment. No coordinating between a supplier and a separate installer.

Old Door Haul-Away

We remove and dispose of your existing door as part of every replacement job.

Spring Balancing & Cycle Test

Springs tensioned correctly to door weight. Cycled minimum 5 times before sign-off.

Written Estimate Before Work Begins

No verbal quotes, no surprises on the invoice. Everything in writing.

Material Comparison

Steel, Aluminum, or Composite?

Each material performs differently in Metro Vancouver's wet, coastal climate. Here's what the differences mean in practice.

01

Galvanized Steel

The most widely used material for residential doors. Durable, cost-effective, and available in the widest range of styles and finishes. Heavy gauge steel resists denting and holds paint well. Best all-around choice for most Metro Vancouver homes.

Most Durable Widest Style Range Cost-Effective
02

Aluminum

Lighter than steel and naturally corrosion-resistant — a strong choice for coastal and marine-adjacent properties in West Vancouver, White Rock, and Delta. The standard framing material for full-view glass panel doors.

Corrosion-Resistant Lightweight Coastal Applications
03

Composite Wood-Look

Compressed wood fibres with a factory finish that replicates real wood grain. Resists warping and splitting in BC's wet-dry climate cycles where real wood doors consistently fail within a few years. Maintains appearance without ongoing maintenance.

How It Works

Installation — Start to Finish

What actually happens between your call and a fully operational new door.

01

Site Assessment

We measure your opening precisely, inspect your header and framing, evaluate your existing hardware, and assess ceiling height for opener clearance. This happens before any product is recommended.

02

Written Estimate

You receive a written estimate covering door supply, hardware, installation, and haul-away. Line-itemized. No hidden fees added on installation day.

03

Door Removal & Haul-Away

We remove your existing door, tracks, and hardware. Your old door is hauled away — no disposal coordination required on your end.

04

Installation & Hardware

New door panels, tracks, rollers, cables, and springs installed to manufacturer specification. Springs tensioned to the actual weight of your door, not a generic setting.

05

Balancing & Multi-Cycle Test

Door balanced manually, then cycled a minimum of 5 times. We verify it holds position at the halfway mark — the industry standard balance test — before sign-off.

06

Opener Integration (if applicable)

If an opener is being installed or reconnected, it's programmed, force-limits are set, and safety reversal is tested before we leave.

What Clients Say

Feedback from Homeowners Across Metro Vancouver

Unedited accounts from clients after garage door installations and replacements.

Flush Steel — Burnaby

I had three companies quote the job. Dörguard was the only one who came out and actually measured before quoting. The other two sent quotes based on photos I texted them. That told me everything I needed to know.

Glass Panel — West Vancouver

We replaced our old wood door with a full-view aluminum and frosted glass unit. The install was cleaner than I expected — they were done in under four hours and the site was tidy when they left. The door operates noticeably smoother than our old one.

Multi-Unit — Strata, Coquitlam

We used Dörguard for a 14-unit townhouse complex in Coquitlam. They coordinated scheduling with owners directly, maintained consistent hardware across all units, and provided documentation for our strata records. Exactly what property management work requires.

Questions

Garage Door Installation — Common Questions

Answers to what homeowners typically ask before booking.

Book an Estimate
Most single-car door replacements are completed within 3 to 4 hours, including removal of the old door and haul-away. Double-car doors typically take 4 to 5 hours. If an opener is being installed at the same time, add approximately 1 to 1.5 hours. We don't leave until the door has been balanced, tested, and confirmed operational.
For attached garages — where the garage shares a wall with the living space — an insulated door makes a meaningful difference to heating efficiency and noise transfer from the street. For detached garages used primarily for vehicle storage, a non-insulated door is often sufficient. We'll advise based on your specific situation rather than defaulting to the higher-cost option.
In many cases, yes — but it depends on the age of the opener, its drive type, and the weight of the new door. An opener sized for a lightweight older door may be undersized for a new insulated steel door. We assess opener compatibility as part of every installation estimate. If your opener is marginal, we'll tell you before installation day, not after.
We supply the door, all associated hardware (springs, cables, rollers, tracks, and bottom seal), and handle disposal of your old door. You don't need to source anything separately. If you have a specific door product in mind that you've already purchased, we can evaluate whether installation is something we're able to take on — contact us to discuss.
For coastal properties in West Vancouver, White Rock, Delta, or anywhere with direct marine air exposure, aluminum is the preferred framing and panel material due to its natural corrosion resistance. Where steel is used, we specify galvanized components and corrosion-resistant hardware throughout. We'll flag this as part of the assessment for any coastal property.
